Quick Tips: When to Get Out

Whether you are riding the current on a river or drifting across a flat with the wind, there are times the movement is too fast to fish a hole or point effectively. If you get too close, you might spook every fish in it, giving you very little chance of catching anything after the first or second cast.
A great way to deal with this is to get out and wade. There are many different ways to tether your kayak off while doing this. One of the most popular ways is to run a bungee cord through the bow handle and wear it like a belt. This frees up your hands and keeps the kayak from jerking on you when the wind blows or you stop to fish. Another technique is to dry dock Your kayak on a near by bank or rock.
Right about now I’m sure some of you are thinking “that’s not kayak fishing, That’s wading with a floating tackle box.” And maybe your right. However I have caught a lot of fish using this method and at the end of the day…. Catching fish is always our goal.
