Striped Bass Feeding Habits

What are Striped Bass Eating…

Finding their food of the day is not a big problem as they have a large range of food they will eat. The best way is to simply try each bait type until you succeed in landing a striper. Pay careful attention to where they are and perhaps you will have an idea of what they are eating. The best time to catch them is when the ambient water temperature is between 57F to 68F (14C to 20C).

It is important to note that the Striped Bass can be found in both freshwater and salt water so choose your bait appropriately. Many anglers say that they have better luck catching stripers at night or in low-light conditions.

Fishing Tackle

The Striped Bass lives in both freshwater and saltwater. For those trapped in reservoirs like Lake Texoma, freshwater tackle is sufficient. For fishing all other habitats like the ocean, brackish water and streams, saltwater gear is required.

Rod

These fish can grow to fifty pounds so a heavy duty rod is required. For saltwater conditions, make sure it is a saltwater rod that is between 6.5 to 7.5 feet (2.3 metres) long. A Daiwa Costal inshore saltwater rod will do the job, as would a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur.
