Mackerel – King and Spanish, by Ron Holmes

Two weeks ago fishing off Destin Florida beaches –

One hour and 15 minutes of fishing caught these three – biggest is a King Mackerel, the two smaller ones are Spanish Mackerel.

Lost one fish right at the boat.  That measure stick behind the King is 36″ long, so you can see the fish is around 39-40 inches and weighed 17 pounds…. not huge, but a nice one.  Seas were around 4 feet, marginal for me to be out, but it was a great fishing day.

Caught everthing fly lining a dead cigar minnow on a 4X Treble hook with a seven strand leader.

The Spanish were grilled that night and all my kings are smoked and made into mackerel dip.   I get out every chance I get to the gulf …. yak fishing is the greatest sport.
