North Sea Maiden Voyage (Aberdeen Scotland)

With the perfect weather conditions it was finally time to begin kayak fishing on the North Sea. Loaded up the kayak and went to Cove Bay in Aberdeen to launch, it’s great to be out on the water again.

In regards to fishing today was completely experimental as I’ve never fished for Cod. Since Cod prefer deep water structure I decided to target them using a 1.5oz XPS Knife Jig . To my surprise on the first drop this whopper took the bait!

And then a Starfish on the snag.

Not much action after the little whopper Cod so I went sightseeing around the cliffs.

Notice the climber?

The fish finder revealed larger fish holding along the dropoffs, as soon as the lure hit 20ft the Pollack bite was on. Moving on to another drop the jig hit bottom with an immediate hard strike, this was a much larger fish. As it came closer to the kayak you could see the brown hue of a nice Cod. Mission accomplished, fresh Cod for dinner! The fish weighed just over 3lbs.

At the moment I’m missing the Tex-Mex food; however, Fish and Chips is hard to beat!

Wow. The scenery there is amazing. I have been to Scotland several times in the Navy but have never seen it like that. Great report, keep them coming. Thanks – Chad
