In some cases, the prey is not completely swallowed up initially; it is caught and held in the jaws and then it is sucked in.

However, the key to landing Largemouth all day is not knowing what it will eat so much as what other fish in the area will eat as well. Spending hours catching small or garbage fish can turn a great day of fishing into a poor one rather quickly. Largemouth bass have a huge appetite and will try to get the largest prey possible in its mouth. If you know the sizes of the fish in your area, right size the bait accordingly.
